We had fun experiencing a potlatch. We ate food, sang songs and danced, as well as sharing our necklaces and signing the Kindergarten and First Grade Peace Treaty. The best part was going inside the tipi-so cool!

In the garden
Bright and early, in the chilly air, both Kindergarten classes worked in the garden. We harvested lettuce, bok choy and beets. We continued preparing the beds by adding soil and making sure it was level. Last, we smelled cloves of garlic and each child planted a clove. The garlic will be ready next Spring.
Stay tuned....

The first week of November
K2 started out the week in the garden. We learned about what happens to the soil if it doesn't have a "blanket" or cover crop.
We also prepared several plots of land.
The kids were given some wheat seeds. These are the seeds that will be planted as a cover crop.
Ms. Lisa soaked the wheat seeds and we tasted them!
This week, we also celebrated 50s Day because we've been to school for 50 days. We talked about the cars, music, clothes and phones of the 50s. Of course, we tasted Coke floats and root beer floats!
Once again, Kindergarten rocks!

Another great day in K!
We had so much fun learning in the garden. We saw some "unhappy" plants after the low temperatures this weekend.
We also saw some plants with thick leaves to stay warm in the cool months.
We learned about Machu Picchu and tried our best to recreate it using blocks, LEGOS and play dough! So fun!

This week in K2...
Welcome back from Fall Break.
We started our day in the garden. The kiddos tasted the sweet potatoes that we harvested two weeks ago. Did your child bring any sweet potatoes home?
On Friday, Kindergarten will have a special visitor....a large, live snake! Please let us know if your child has a major fear of snakes and we will make arrangements for him/her to visit another classroom while we learn about snakes!
Thanks for your love and support!

October
K2 Families,
Can you believe it is October? We have been working hard in K2 learning each letter sound. Ask your child to show you the movement that goes with each letter. We have also learned several sight words. We have started learning about South America and will begin discussing animals and their needs.
Thank you to all the people who took us to Crabtree Farms. We learned so much and had a wonderful time!
Check back for more news from K2!

Welcome back to school! (Last year's parents, please unsubscribe.)
K2 Families,
It's going to be a great school year! Please "Join this site". (Look for the blue rectangle to the right.) I will post messages about upcoming events and keep you up to date with what's going on in our classroom. As always, let me know if you have any questions!
Just a little info about me...this school year marks my fourth year teaching at St. Peter's. Before I began teaching there, I taught in Hamilton County and then stayed home for eight years. I have been married to my wonderful husband, Stephen, for 13 years. We have two sons, Landon and Harrison, who both attend St. Peter's. I feel so blessed to be part of the St. Peter's family.
Looking forward to working with you to make this the best year!

Wednesday, April 24
K2 parents,
Tomorrow, April 24 please have your child wear his/her regular uniform. The children will wear their chapel uniforms for Mrs. Lanza's special chapel on Friday, April 26.
By the way, we are having a terrific week. The CDM brought a wonderful, interactive, engaging lesson on bees. We have been practicing a very special song to sing for Mrs. Lanza, too. Today, we taught Mrs. Dana's preschoolers the importance of recycling and how to reuse to make fantastic creations!
Tomorrow begins our Alphabet Countdown. It's hard to believe we are already counting down to Summer Vacation. I have enjoyed teaching your precious children! Have a good day!

New Year in K2
This week was a great start to 2013. The children were ready to get back to their Kindergarten work and their Kindergarten friends. We wrote about New Year's resolutions and discussed ways to improve ourselves in 2013. We wrapped up our study of the five senses and we will begin discussing seasons and weather next week. We also learned about Antartica and will continue those studies, focusing on penguins. Next week, we will read the story The Mitten. Our workstations will tie in with The Mitten, so be sure to ask your child about it! Please remember that Wed, Jan 16 is Teacher In-service with a 12:00 dismissal. Are you planning to come and hear the Core Knowledge speaker?
